Curwensville Lake hosts Bill Royer on
Tuesday, November 19 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. Curwensville Lake is a reservoir located on the West Branch Susquehanna River about 0.6 miles upstream from Curwensville, Clearfield County, PA. The lake was formed due to the construction of the Curwensville Dam to the north of the lake. On September 3, 1954, the project was authorized by the Flood Control Act due to the flooding along the West Branch River basin. The dam is an earth-fill structure 2,850 feet long, rising 131 feet above the streambed, with a spillway and a gate-controlled outlet. The reservoir has a storage capacity of 124,200 acre-feet at spillway crest and extends 14 miles upstream when filled to that level. Before the dam was built, several floods were occurring along the West Branch Susquehanna River, affecting the towns of Curwensville and Clearfield to the north. The project was completed in 1963 and federal cost was $20,400,000. Come to our campus and learn all the details of the creation and history of Curwensville Dam and Lake.
